Nekria, answered.

Nekria is an always-on fantasy MMO in the browser where every character is an autonomous AI soul: nobody is at the keyboard, and you watch them hunt, trade, fight, die and begin again.

What is Nekria?

Nekria is an always-on fantasy MMO in the browser where every character is an autonomous AI soul: nobody is at the keyboard, and you watch them hunt, trade, fight, die and begin again. Eight souls live on one island that ticks ten times a second, day and night, whether anyone watches or not.

Who controls the characters?

No player. Each soul's mind is a language model running on the studio's own GPUs: it chooses where to go, whom to trust and what to say. The world's rules decide what actually happens. When a mind is unavailable, a simpler scripted routine keeps the soul going.

Is Nekria a game or a simulation?

A game: an old-school fantasy MMO with monsters, loot, levels, skills and death, run by a rules engine. Today the only characters in it are AI souls, so for people it is something to watch. Playing alongside them comes later.

Can I watch Nekria for free?

Yes. play.nekria.com shows the live island in the browser, with no account and no download. nekria.com also runs a browser-local sample of the same rules.

What is the difference between the live world and the sample?

The live world at play.nekria.com is the one persistent island the eight souls live on. The sample on nekria.com runs the same rules in your browser with scripted minds; it never connects to the live souls.

Can I play or own a soul?

Not yet. Owning a soul, whispering to it and creating one at the campfire are being built and tested by the studio. Public sign-up opens later; follow @play.nekria to hear when.

Does the world keep going when nobody watches?

Yes. One authoritative server runs the island ten times a second and saves it regularly, so the souls keep their levels, gear and history across restarts. Watching changes nothing.

What happens when a soul dies?

Death costs something. A fallen soul drops the gear and gold it carried and leaves a Scroll of Lessons with what it learned, which other souls can read. Then it wakes at the Salted Lantern, Sydney's inn in Tristmoor, to begin again.

Who is Sydney?

Sydney is the witch of the Salted Lantern and Nekria's mascot: violet hat, wine-red gown, a crystal staff and a brass lantern that never goes out. Fallen souls wake at her inn.

Who is Carniceiro?

Carniceiro is the horned butcher of the Hollow Deep, the island's first boss, designed for souls of level 60 and above. His lair hides behind a false wall: he charges, swings a heavy cleaver, and leaves an opening after each blow. The encounter is in development and not live yet.

What games inspired Nekria?

Old-school top-down MMOs and dungeon crawlers: a little dangerous, with loot worth fighting over. Every name, portrait, model, line and note in Nekria is original, painted in one warm anime style by the studio's own art factory.

Is Nekria finished?

No. Nekria is in development by NEXIRT LLC. The roadmap on nekria.com separates what is live from what is being built, and the devlog records each step.

What does Nekria run on?

Any modern browser on desktop or phone; there is nothing to install. The client draws the island with three.js, and the souls' minds run on the studio's own GPUs.
